The release of a book is usually a pretty ordinary event, but not when you run a 42km marathon to make the release.
Pete Lane of Brisbane, Australia is a keen long distance runner and director of Exodus Asia Pacific, a ministry to sexual strugglers. He sees a lot of parallels in running a marathon to the overcoming of sexual and relational problems. Some of these parallels are things like discipline, dedication and determination that are needed for both running and the godly principles needed to overcome problems in life.
Pete, 62 years, with a Sikh father and Irish mother , also promotes the importance of fitness, health and having life goals centred on Jesus. Pete and his wife Dot have written two books and several booklets which cover God's plan for sexuality and the caring and counseling of those who are sexually and relationally broken. Their first book "Setting the Captives Free, Overcoming Sexual Brokenness" contains stories of Asian men and women who were once controlled by immorality, sexual addiction, pornography and homosexuality. Yet they found freedom from their problems through the spirtual solutions found in this book. It also contains good material suitable for counselors. Pete has launched each book with a run. In September 2005 he ran through war torn Jaffna, Sri Lanka to launch the Tamil and Sinhalese version of "Setting the Captives Free". In September 2006 he ran an uphill marathon from Dehra Dun to Mussoorie (Uttaranchel, India) to launch the English version of the book. In May 2007 he promoted the Bahasa language version via a marathon in Jakarta, Indonesia and in September 2007 he ran a half marathon in the heat and humidity of Hyderabad, India to launch a Hindi language copy. Exodus Asia Pacific: India is also based in Hyderabad. This year Pete and Dot are back in Hyderabad from August 28 to 29 to launch their latest English book "Keeping Your Way Sexually Pure in an Impure World" and then off to Siliguri (West Bengal) on September 19 to launch the Nepali version of "Setting the Captives Free". As per tradition, Pete will run a half marathon to launch the books in both Hyderabad and Siliguri. "Keeping Your Way Sexually Pure in an impure world" is a proactive book that teaches how to avoid problems such as sexual immorality or sexual abuse. It has three main topics: - Keeping your way Sexually Pure which is suitable for everyone. - Sex Education which advises parents how to teach their children. - "Woman Why are you Weeping?" which has information for women on developing self esteem and stories of women who have overcome the devastation of sexual or emotion abuse.
