Coffee is something that I cannot do without in the morning. The fresh aroma of coffee acts as an instant boost of energy I require. The flavour of the drink depends on how carefully the beans have been processed. Every time I have coffee, it’s like an automated source of refreshment and am all set to begin another day. Likewise should also be the institution of marriage. You should feel renewed each day because of the foundation of your marriage. Unless your foundation is firmly built on the Lord, you can be sure that your marriage is on rough waters.
I remember the time, when my brother was going to get married and had to undergo a counseling session with the priest a few days ahead. During the session, the priest asked him, ''When is the date of your marriage?'' My brother promptly replied that it was on the third of January. Then the priest said, ``No, your marriage day continues to remain every other day from the day you exchange your wedding vows.'' It was a lesson well learnt for me too - that marriage continues to exist until the day you depart from the earth. The question of sustaining this God-ordained relationship should be a matter of making your marriage work. One has to take time to nourish this relationship. Just like the farmer taking time to sow the seeds and then waiting for it to sprout and later awaits the harvest, so is marriage. It is rightly said that you reap what you sow. If you have sowed the seeds for a good marriage, then you will reap a joyful harvest. Marriage has to be honoured and husbands and wives have to be faithful to one another. No great marriage has been built without the couples working for it. It takes time and involves giving, taking, forgiving, and accepting the other person as they are. One should not expect to change the other person. If there are certain things you don't like in a person, you should approach the person with love. Approaching the person with love is not a simple task. Love embodies a number of aspects associated with it. Corinthians 1:13 says that ''Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself.'' It is relatively easier to approach a person with love, if you derive your help from the Lord, who is the greatest source of love. Unless you keep falling back on the Lord for his mercy to lead you, your life will be a slippery grave. Your firm hold in the Lord will not let you slip and fall. The marriage journey will not be a bed of roses, but you can be sure that He will be there providing a way to escape the hidden dangers and make you sure footed like the deer.
